The Dallas Police Department is asking for help from the public in identifying a suspect involved in a hit-and-run crash on January 18, 2023 that happened just after 3:30 a.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2005-2010 GMC pickup truck pulled out of a parking lot at 300 S. Marsalis Avenue onto S. RL Thornton Service Road. The driver allegedly made an improper left turn and struck a pedestrian when the vehicle drove onto the sidewalk. The driver fled the scene and the man died from his injuries. Anyone with information regarding this offense is asked to contact Vehicle Crimes Detective Jearlynn Jackson at 214-608-6014 or je**************@da**********.gov. Please reference case number 010360-2023.

Anytime someone flees the scene of an early morning hit-and-run, it gives the appearance that they were trying to hide something. We don’t yet know what might have led to the cause of this crash, but we can say for sure that some evidence is gone, particularly any evidence that might have been obtained through toxicology tests. I am not saying this driver was impaired, but if he was, there will be little evidence to prove it. Drivers who flee often know this, especially ones with a history of driving impaired. For victims and their grieving families, this can be an issue as it may delay justice and impact their chance of recovery. Hopefully, the criminal justice system will locate the criminal and hold him accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
