On January 15, 2023, Lufkin Police responded to an early morning crash in the 900 block of Southwood Drive. The police report that a Ford pickup truck driven by Erie Downs (64) was traveling on Southwood Drive when he lost control of the vehicle and left the road, flipping it several times. He was not wearing a safety belt at the time and was ejected from the vehicle. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. No additional information is available at this time.
COMMENTARY
Early morning crashes can happen for a number of reasons – fatigue, road conditions, mechanical failure, seatbelt or safety cage failure, and even medical conditions. We don’t know what led to this crash but a thorough investigation should be performed so that the family can have closure and the claims process can move forward.
